RFID
RFID identifies objects by radio without contact: access badges in low frequency (125 kHz) or high frequency (13.56 MHz).
RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) covers technologies that identify an object by radio, without contact or line of sight. A chip and an antenna, often inside a badge or card, answer a reader's field.
The two main families:
- low frequency (LF, 125/134 kHz): older building badges, animal tagging;
- high frequency (HF, 13.56 MHz): transit cards, modern badges and NFC.
A tool like the Proxmark3 Easy covers both bands and is used to study your own badges. Our NFC Escape Tag puzzle turns it into a game.
